Math Reflection

What we learned in math this year is probability, shapes, fractions, and much more. Connected Math is different than the other math programs, because it is more challenging so we can learn. There are 8 books in the Connected Math series and they are Bits and Pieces I, II, III, Shapes & Designs, How likely is it, Data about us, covering and Surroundings, and Prime Time. So far we have only done 6 out of 8 books and they are Prime Time, Bits and Pieces I and II, Shapes & Designs, Covering and Surroundings, and how likely is it.
Each chapter has about 4 to 5 investigations and that is where we do our questions in our book. The Connected Math program works by testing your skills in math. The way connected math works is that they get a middle school math program, and they have real world situations. They have things for students, parents, teachers, and information about their website.
My favorite unit that we did this year was the How Likely Is It? Unit. I liked this unit, because we got to learn about probability and how you can make educated guesses. Some of the words that we co me across, we write them down in our notebooks for vocabulary terms to study. Some of the words that I came across in the glossary were experimental probability, probability, outcome, and theoretical probability.
In this unit we did a problem with this kid named Calvin that wanted to have his favorite cereal, but his mom wanted him to have a healthier cereal so they decided to flip a coin and they would pick sides and toss the coin to see who was getting to eat which cereal and we got to guess the probability of landing on a side. Other things that we did in our investigation was that we Tossed paper cups, Predicting who would win a competition, and wrote down some really interesting things in our notebooks and we also got to do really fun problems. I learned a lot of things in connected math this year and I am looking forward to working on math next year.
